Bröhan Institute for Design Documentation (bidd)

The Bröhan Institute for Design Documentation (bidd) was completed in Berlin-Kreuzberg in May 2017 after a planning and construction period of almost three years. The licensee of bidd is the Bröhan Design Foundation (BDF) which will thus be provided with a significantly improved infrastructure for future research, exhibition and publication projects.

The bidd holds an extensive library on the history of design and architecture. Furthermore a historical design archive containing original drafts of important design works and also objects of everyday culture made of wood, glass, porcelain, ceramic, metal and plastic. Moreover, the archive includes a variety of works on paper from all areas of typography, such as posters, brochures, flyers, promotional postcards, accidentals, etc., which also serve as a research base for the institute.

The bidd is an independent non-profit institution implementing the objective of the Bröhan Design Foundation. It ensures that the findings obtained within the scope of basic research and specific research projects are made available to experts and to the public interested in design topics in the form of exhibitions and publications and also specialist lectures.
